Jinny Beyer Gift and all

Good morning. We’re back again … a couple days in a row. We just talked to Imelda for a few moments. Her and her husband bought a new computer and she was asking some questions about where I had found some music for sister. She needed the song Edelweiss without anyone singing on it. So we went to Rhapsody and downloaded a very nice violin edition. I had to tell her the service cost some money, but that we’d really enjoyed it quite a bit. Matter of fact we could be playing it now.

Nice we’re listening to a sultry Corinne Bailey Rae.

We talked to Imelda for a few moments about electronic devises … she had heard about the Apple Ipad and we talked over the iPod. Each time we talk to her she wants to think that we are and the boys are so intelligent, but we’re not THAT smart … she’s just a little shy around us. It was a pleasant talk. I’m always glad when she comes to visit though its not real often. She and Rosa the secretary are close and I’m warmed by their relationship to each other … I remember being younger and having really good friends. Now though I just have a whole lot of nice acquaintances.

I do want to say something that has just come back to memory. Rich has been talking to his daughter over the last several days because of her conflict with her partner. In some ways I think I mostly want them to be back together, because I’m sure they really do love each other and I’ve seen them together and think of them as a very happy couple. But, now they are not being so happy. I won’t go into that further, but I have given myself a few more moments to play with the thoughts that she could move in with us. I know that Rich is like no way – she’d upset her mother so much and then I think that Rich enjoys his private life and it was like talking about his mother living with us – he doesn’t want to give up that special time and space we share.

But, all that aside … I think the last call when Jillian was on the line she said something about me reminding her father about creating a homemade card for her on her birthday May 5th. I think that Rich is probably good enough at remembering, but Jillian was impressing on him that it really was the thought that count and him spending that kind of special attention to her would be enough. I thought it was really nice of her. And, in the meantime it gave me an opening. Rich said that Ann was evesdropping and probably already overheard the message, so then since my name was addressed as living … I shouted out Jillian – YOU CAN LIVE WITH US!

Hehehe that’s something I really wanted her to know that push come to shove, it wasn’t me keeping her back. Hmm, someone isn’t answering the phone … what’s up with that. I hate to take it back here because they say up front … I was just getting it, but I hate to think I may have missed a call. It was 847 and that’s more likely to be my call than someone elses, but it’s stopped ringing so we’ll let go of that.

Must have rung about 15 times. *sigh*

Anyway getting back to the other, Jillian must have heard me because her father repeated out loud well if you just showed up, I would probably take you in … WOOHOO!!! Thadda boy! But, otherwise he’s pushing the big concept of her moving in with her mother like his other son because that’s why the mother has the bigger house. He wanted always to be ready for the kids if they ran into trouble. I think personally that would be a hard thing to do … it’s always hard with getting adult kids to act adult when put back in a kid situation of having their mother or father in the house.

Ahh the call was about the guys coming in with the blue bag job. It’s something that the clients are working on. Ok, done with that … check, check.

I have to admit I’d really love it if Jillian was living with us. Rich wouldn’t let me pass on the message next that I wanted her to know that Maury would be moving out by April 1rst. But, even more than that I wanted to fantasize that Jillian was living with us in our dream house – somehow the cost would have to be done so that we had the lower level addition and that it was finished and with bathroom. Man wouldn’t that be something to give her. It be about 1200 square feet of pure privacy, but then she could be up with us as much and as often as she would like.

The thing about that kind of arrangement is that we’d have to make an extra investment and we couldn’t be sure that she’d be there long. Basically, you want to encourage and she’s already looking forward to having a place of her own. You wouldn’t want to push her to stay any longer than she thought necessary. But, if we could afford the space it would be so nice for her and for us in being able to get to know each other. I wouldn’t think that our apartment would be good enough, but the Patriot Place house in Bolingbrook would be a very classy place. It would be too big for her at first, but she could save on rent and then get a job teaching and then start to build furniture for the place downstairs, so that when she was ready to move into her own place she’d have enough stuff collected. And, then we could cover things like kitchen until she’d gotten bedroom and living room and such pulled together. I think now seeing Jon’s place it would be about as big. In many way nicer as to it being new though not so high. He’s got like a 20 foot ceiling.

Hehehe

It be a real classy place though and she could bring her friends over. AND, Rich could continue being in real life the perfect father. We’d just have to work on not arguing so much. I think though Jillian would be like her grandmother and we probably wouldn’t argue very much. It be like my kids … we really don’t argue.

Everyone has permission to have their own set of thoughts … no one has to “be on top.”

Just anyway … that’s a whole new set of thoughts … even if we didn’t get the basement and Jillian was just saving money toward furniture, we’d still have the spare room for her to stay as long as she needed. Yup, yup. It sure be better than the thought of her staying at her mothers, which wouldn’t encourage the mother then to sell the bigger place. Actually Rich talked to his younger son Chris and it was reported that the mother was already redoing the daughter’s bedroom so she could be comfortable there.

I know in my heart that daughter/mother relationship could be very important, but at the very least she could still stay over SOME time! Hmm? Just enough at least to clear her head from her mother and brother for a while. Or, just maybe because she enjoyed being with Rich and us. It just be nice.

Hmm, maybe next we could talk about Joe and Cari a bit, or at least the event of having eaten out with them and Rich. It was really nice. They were very animated.

They had just come from picking out their wedding gifts at Target registry. Joe had also picked up a piano keyboard as a gift from Cari. He was very excited and remembered having one at the house when we were still living together.

Unfortunately, I fried it by using the wrong cord. But, in general his interest in making music is similar to how his father would have approached it. We told him that the way we had learned which wasn’t professional was to just be told which fingers are which keys and then work on that and scales and chords. He was excited to be starting. I hope he hooks up with the piano person from his church and she shows him some real tips. Mark could teach him some stuff to – CS’s Mark, but they would rarely be together.

Anyway that part was exciting and it was exciting for them to be talking a little about imagination shopping as we referred to it and Cari seemed to accept. I hope that we can do something, but that really brings to mind that we haven’t done any thought preparation to giving them gifts for their wedding present. Joe did mention how creative his mom was and that not directly, but he went from there to the thoughts of making homemade gifts. I’m pretty sure that might mean making him a quilt, but it would require that I get back on the groove of all that. I’m wondering if I could make a quilt to THEIR choice … Hmm? I would have to pay for the top part, because CS is just not going there, but I could do something with the bottom part. If I talked to them about it ahead of time then Cari could get colors she and Joe would like. There’s no doubt that Cari would like pink, but she’d probably consider Joe in their final choice.

Where could we go to pick out the quilt pattern though … it’s not like we could steal her up to CS’s for the weekend, but that be nice if CS could handle it. Just she’s so far behind in life … and as to quilts I’m not much better. I need a big quilt collection to choose from. Maybe we could get CS to mention some quilt sites and we could go shopping for ideas and to pick up material with Cari. I’d like to do it at Ann’s place, but it really is a big trip for them. We’d have to make it a day trip. No, it really work out better on the internet or some local shop.

Ok, now it is later and I think I figured it out … I didn’t end up letting the bride choose what I was getting her. That’s sorta too bad, but there was a kismity thing going on here. I looked all over the Internet because I couldn’t remember that my sister likes to use Thimbleberries. But, then I found that their distributor is RJR Fabrics … that was cool. I had forgotten I was at this site before, but somehow two times in a couple of months I’d found myself to the same place. I didn’t remember it at the time, but then I started going down their pattern designers because I didn’t like the Thimbleberries ones they were showing me. That’s when I came across the lady Jinny Beyer. Wow … that’s when I realized that I’d looked a long time the last time and this was the lady that had impressed me the most.

I saw first she was using color shading which I really, really like, and also she was the one that had created the “Pinwheel Sunrise” Design. The design is WONDERFUL – I’d cut it out and copied it before and now thinking of it for Joe and Cari it became perfect in concept and also in color – because the center colors were in pinks and that’s the ones that Cari loves. Here I’ll show you and then I’m going to pause to read up on the designer.

This is the Quilt!

AND after a lot of introspection … this is the material I’ve chosen to be the background unless Ann at the quilt shop is really against it. I hadn’t considered it at first, but then when I discovered a window in back of a window I realized it was a beauty of a rose design and I felt finally with no doubt that THIS was going to be the most appropriate for a wedding. I thought at first the darker rose print, but in the long run – it was more purple. AND going with the sincere knowledge of how crazy Cari is for Pink I just know now this has to be the right background.

This designers materials are WONDERFUL – it was like when I found the colors for the guys’ fishes – they just made me feel tremendously good inside. I thought I’d order right away from the dealer, but then I found they just recommend you to shops. And, then I went down the list and sure enough there was my favorite quilt shop – the one where we went with them to a retreat. So, I called up Ann and told her in just a few words which one I wanted and how did it work, and could she collect the fabrics for me if it wasn’t too much money or effort.

Ann cut me short – maybe because she gets things so quickly, BUT maybe because she was so excited that the RJR Dealer was due in her shop within moments. Man! That’s when I knew that this had to be kismet. I hope she can arrange and get back to me before too long because I’m so excited. WooHOO!!! I’ve got about $400 left. I don’t know when Rich is going to need money to pay something, but I think I have that money as extra and that he’s paid everything from the first check. We should get paid on Friday or Monday so we should be pretty good if I need to make an immediate decision.

This is my designer … isn’t she pretty!

This is what RJR says about her!

Jinny Beyer

One of the pioneering women of quilting, Jinny Beyer was the first designers to create a line of fabric exclusively for quilters. She alone is responsible for setting the industry standard for quality and design for quilters all over the world. Jinny's strength as a designer lies in her contemporary, sophisticated styling and in her remarkable sense of color and shading, a skill which she honed while living in India and making her first quilt. Jinny pieces and quilts by hand.

An award-wining quilter, Jinny is best known for her color shading technique used to create dimensional designs that stretch the imaginations of quilters, challenging them to go one step beyond and expand their skill levels.

Jinny designs three major collections a year for RJR and several groupings of basics to support her collections. Her most successful basics line, The Jinny Beyer Palette, features 150 tonal and multiscreen tonal designs set in a complete spectrum of color. The Palette fabrics are gradually shaded to educate quilters on how to blend colors and create effective color combinations in quilts. In addition to the Palette, Jinny is known for her signature fabric, the border stripe, which she showcases in every major collection.

Jinny Beyer began her first quilt while living in India, using Indian fabrics in colors of deep red and dark blue. The darker hues became a hallmark of her future quilts. In 1978, Ray of Light won first place among 10,000 entries in Good Housekeeping's Great American Quilt Contest. Jinny's Bicentennial Quilt was awarded first place in the 1979 Quilter's Newsletter Magazine contest. In 1984, Jinny was inducted into The Quilters Hall of Fame, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the world of quilting.

Jinny received the Silver Star Award at the International Quilt Festival in 1995, given annually to living persons who have made a lasting and positive impact on the field of quilting and textile art over their careers. She received the Michael Kile Award of Achievement in 1996. Created in honor of the late Michael Kile, publisher of The Quilt Digest Press, the Michael Kile Award is given to people in the industry who share Michael's commitment to excellence and have made contributions that will have a long-lasting effect on the quilting industry. Jinny's quilt Ray of Light was chosen as one of the 100 Best American Quilts of the 20th Century in 1999, published by Quilter's Newsletter Magazine.

Jinny Beyer lectures all over the world. Quilters can learn about her techniques at her annual Jinny Beyer Seminar at Hilton Head. She has published dozens of books by McGraw-Hill and Breckling Press.

Ok, well you know how things go for me. We just are getting back to the copy because we’ve explored Jinny’s work. I stopped at Amazon after having put in my cart $125 worth of books. I just love her stuff! I went through also all the other people that were designers for RJR Fabrics. I’m thinking she’s one of their top people.

The items I was shopping for at most were about $34. But, things add up. Afterward too I found that the design I’d chosen above comes in a Kit or bundle – 9652-129 Jinny Beyer Palette 2009 again that was Pinwheel Sunrise. Pretty thrilled with it.

It should bring down the cost if our shop-keeper doesn’t put it together piece by piece.

Hmm, time to go home?
