Just a few notes to start the day - Rich is still fishin

Good morning. We have been here doing a few wake up things and am now sitting down to write out some thoughts. We did post the entry we had written last on Monday and it is now Friday. I’ll have to check the work computer, but I may not have written since then and its Friday now. We did post about 1/3 of the pictures we’d taken Wednesday night when we went out to Gilbert north of Elgin to see the place that is being called the Montgomery place.

I skimmed over what had been written a short while ago and it doesn’t seem to say much on the Montgomery place so I guess I need to back track and find out some more information about that. It’s one of the big deal things happening now. For the record … Rich is still fishing, I saw Dr. Marvin yesterday and there was another mishap with Rich. Maybe more of that later, k?

There was let’s see what happened Monday … I know we had the day off and we have gotten the material though not the books that were ordered, but I think we ordered that stuff on Saturday. Can’t remember much more about that day. Then Tuesday, we went to work, but then ended up in Montgomery to see the new place – so that means we must have done a lot of real estate looking on Monday.

We found there was a terribly talkative woman in Montgomery who held me for 3 hours. We did see a couple of models while we were up there, but then the one we did go there to see – there wasn’t an open model of so we went out to see the model in Gilbert. We spent most of the work time going over things real estate wise and then Thursday – last night we were with Dr. Marvin. Some of the stuff has been with the place itself, looking at all kinds of house options, going over our thoughts of the new place and the shift of attention from the place in Bolingbrook to Montgomery. Yesterday we posted all 71 of the pictures of the house we’d taken on Wednesday on our FB with a running commentary.

So, then like what happens today?

I do know that the person we wanted to talk to about Mortgage on the Ryland places has been gone for about a week and a half and she’s due back in the office today.

We’re a little frustrated with her because she didn’t say she was going, but then again we weren’t as directly working with her yet. We just waited until we finally sent another note and then we got an auto response saying she’d be away.

In the meantime since we’ve gone through a lot of other legwork, we found that we liked a lady named Amanda who was a mortgage broker and thought she could help us and in fact did spend a long 45-60 minutes on the phone with me talking through mortgage issues. I was grateful for her support. One other person has been real helpful … I continue to receive listings by David Hackiewicz. I’m probably on an auto-loader, but he gave me good support when we drove out to see older properties especially in Oswego, Montgomery and Aurora. He was the one that introduced me to the Montgomery area and in fact that’s where he lived and he was a realtor who could have lived anywhere so that was a good recommendation toward the city. I think its pretty small in comparison to some of the newer cities, but that made it a little more special. We’d have to investigate that further. We saw the direction we’d go for their business district, but we didn’t have time while we were out there.

The thing about Montgomery or in specific the place we found in Montgomery is that houses there cost less money than some of the communities just East of there. It is 15 minutes past Bolingbrook so an hour from work and a half hour from Rich’s Mom. Remember Bolingbrook was the half way point at 45 minutes from work and 45 minutes from his Mom. The other thing about Montgomery – or the house we’re looking at is that its by the same builder – Ryland who have given us our other best housing option.

Rich had seen the first Ryland place on the Golf course a couple of weekends ago now and I know that if he liked the first place so much he would like the second place.

There are a few positives and negatives. First there is that extra 15 minutes, second the second Ryland place is a two story. Ryland doesn’t have any properties closer than these two. There is one one-story house in Montgomery, but I wouldn’t trade it for the Bolingbrook place. Bolingbrook for one level is surprisingly 7,000 more money than the two-story and when we went out on Tuesday night the lady said they were offering the houses in Montgomery $15,000 less so the 2-story for that extra 15 minutes was going to be $22,000 less, and for that difference there was a substantial difference in amount of property. With the Montgomery place we’d not only have 2 beds, laundry, study and a kitchen, eating area and family room – we’d also get a basement (non-finished), 2 more bedrooms, a formal living room and dining room, an extra bath, a loft AND an extra third car garage rather than two.

It’s a lot to consider. I still like the kitchen better in the first place, but the second place kitchen is no slouch! I like the family room and fire place better in the 2nd place and having those other 8 rooms or spaces is just a tremendous reason to drive an extra 15 minutes. We’d formally ask sister to only come in 3 days a week and we’d work to share a ride to work with Rich when we could. There’d be ways to do it. Mostly though … when we were out of the city – we’d be WAY out of the city and loving every moment!

This is the map of the area and proximity. The first green dot to the lower right is Bolingbrook and the next one to the north west is Montgomery. The place next to the Montgomery (southwest of it) is Plano and all they are offering is 13-1700 townhomes. Too small! Everything else is north of Elgin. We lived in Elgin before and I find no problem with it … just its farther from work, closer to his ex and farther from his Mom. Maury and Joe are like in the middle toward Wheaton so I feel ok where I am in relation to them.

Good good … we just showered, took our medicine and packed up for leaving. We’ve now got 45 minutes until we’re ready to go. I love the pictures up on the blog. We turned around the order of the ones. Ok, we’re progressed a little more here, but seem to be going through our morning time too quickly. We rearranged the pictures so they come out in the same order as the ones on our little computer that we’d changed up last night. Then we set it to slide show. We also got dressed and progressed all that.

Basically, it’s now turned in to a walk-through of the place. I sure wish I could keep this keyboard all day. Ok, you know all our thoughts on being able to hang around. I know that I have to be at work though. I should check my days off to see how they are stacking up. I want to save days til when I have something specific I want to be doing.

We should take a small break here to note that we have been going through some stuff with Rich. Basically, we had talked to a few people including a mortgage broker and a rep from the bank he holds his mortgage. We didn’t give any names or account numbers but basically the thing came down to that he and his ex didn’t do the mortgage right. It seems that its against the rules to quit deed the place over to his ex because the banks rules are against it. The only thing that happens is that his wife gets the place under her name on the title, but the note is still in both their name. Apparently it is in the rules that nobody change the responsibilities on the paperwork and that most likely since Rich went ahead and did this anyway … the paperwork is going to go to the bank and most likely – or hopefully not likely, but the bank has confirmed what the broker said in that the bank could now foreclose on Rich and his ex for breaking the rules of the contract. We’ve gone at it with Rich for the last two nights and there’s a frosty space between us. He wants to think one way and we’re getting information in another direction.

The proper thing to do is that the ex should be refinancing the place under her name. Rich seems adamant as he’s normally adamant about listening to anything other than what he wants to do. I think he’s getting bad advice from his son and he went against his lawyers recommendations that the house go over to the ex. The mortgage person went as far as to say that Rich should let go of the house all together, she refinance, and that she take over the 2nd mortgage – because that should have been done with Rich’s portion of the house. I know pretty sure that Rich is going to hear something like that and disagree strongly, because he’s still carrying guilt that he messed up in the marriage. That’s what Dr. Marvin is thinking.

When we went to Dr. Marvin’s last night we were at wits end. But, for now we’re going to hold off on that because we need to get to work. Hopefully, we can continue from there.
