Just a tiny bit math, then proposol, and then our regular confusion
x = x is a value, each value is unique, defined, and the values are called elements of the domain. The set of x input values is called the domain of f (function) and Y. The domain of x is the combined sets of A and B. And, there has to be a relation … you can’t have a domain without a corresponding range of Ys. x lays down horizontally and the Domain seems to sweep sideways collecting coordinates from columns.f(x) = f(x) is a value. If f(x) = Y … well Y seems to = f(x) and she then stands up vertically and all the f(x) together make up the range. A range is the entries in the other row or column opposite the domain. The range of f is the set of all actual outputs. Range sweeps up and down collecting rows.
Function = A function is a rule or correspondence that associates to each number x in a set A to f(x) in a set B. It is a mathematical problem to find the function’s domains; this can be considered “the problem” because we don't know what the value of f(x) is. For each x in A, f determines a unique number in B which is called the f(x). The numerical representation of a function f is just a table of values. The function must map every element of the domain to an element of its codomain. To be a function you can only have one arrow going from x to y … and only one y per x ... or it’s not a function! You can test whether or not you have a functions by graphing a straight line drawn up and down connecting specific coordinates, such as {(2,3), (2, -2)}. Because the (2) coordinates match (thus a straight line), you have proven it is not a function.
Ok, ok … this is finally me. Good morning even though it is 11:15 am. The above slim three paragraphs are the result of some morning figurin. I took all that math work last night and I boiled it down to this. There are still a few things that concern me, such as I don’t know whether there can be a domain of f AND a domain of x. The above is the most sensible statements from all that I’d gathered and then sorted out according to x, f(x), and function. Domain and range previously were separate, but seemed to go along peacefully with the first two, so we took liberties heheheh. Basically, it is the boiled down version and we sent it off to Dr. M. to get a check-over. We’ve worked very hard over the last 24 hours on the project that we’d finished with hahaha yesterday. This is about the copy that we sent to Sr. last night and this morning it came back with an approval YAYYYYY!!!! It’s a little roly-poly, but here’s “The Pitch.” I’m very happy this morning because sister says it sounds great.
This is the proposed Program Framework for the Center - "The Five Essential Domains in Bloom" program.
I think to understand the new Framework model, we are suggesting to think of movement within time ... People learning, improving, or progressing and who are in constant state of change or flux because they and their environment are part of the world that moves. It's when we try to refuse or attempt to halt the processes of change that we find ourselves confused or in trouble. This is an especially important reason to learn goal-making and objectives. If we learn to make plans, adapt, and then follow-through toward completion of our thoughts and goals, we feel primarily satisfied and then secondarily gratified when people appreciate us for our contribution.
We can teach at the center a basic framework to facilitate the process of goal-making and that there are times to "hold-on" to the goals we have and there are times to "go-on". When we "go-on" it means that something's like goals and ideas should change and maybe it’s even us that needs to change. We can teach change is good, and change is going to involve making decisions, which is necessary for the individual's to become independent people. When we make choices we let people know we are unique, and in making and presenting our choices to others, we share that we are not alone.
I would like over the next year, for the program to focus on learning to do goals within various program areas. Goals and the program areas have been around, for quite a while so give the cause stability, but they can be taught better by making a certain commitment now at the onset of having a new program director. The individuals should know in all earnestness that they will be the one to make important learning decisions and they will be the one in control and responsible for their direction. Awareness and methodology will be closely sketched and standardized until they become of second nature. And, if people are more clearly aware, they will be better able to implement their ideas as reliable tools toward self-determination. I am hoping that I can devise ways to do to show quantitative and qualitative outcomes. Because there are so many, and yet not so many people at the center, I would shoot to complete this goal or goal stage within a year's time. It seems like a good program that has a right priority.
Goals will come in various sizes and shapes and objectives will be so-sponsored as goal "steps". The diagram shows the framework for processing the goal. Changing domains or orange boxes will be a fairly spontaneous focus change in "priority-" or "direction-." Once we learn one goal under one or more conditions, we can turn to something new. Until we learn what we set-out to learn, we should continue to try, or alter the goal only as far as clearing its obstacles. We need to be patient with ourselves and our goals and ideas.
As an example of domain usage, (yellow) knowledge within the (orange) living domain doesn't stop or go away when the person is focusing on the (orange) personal domain and (yellow) knowledge of piano-playing, an (orange) achievement domain, doesn't stop if the piano recital is within the (orange) community domain. Each of the domains operates at all six levels of Bloom. And, then we repeat the whole process of choosing and "picking the blooms" again until everyone becomes very good at it (collecting full bouquets), and they are self-determining their lives' to the fullest extent possible.
For an easy example of the goal learning process ... One DSP believes in "brushing it off." This would be an example of the social domain at the knowledge level - when people are bothersome - "brush it off." She uses this as a fact. A comprehension level would understand that what she means is that when others are doing something bothersome you don't need to get involved or take it personal; you can let it go or walk away. Application of course is putting the act of brushing it off into practice; someone slights you, but you don't take it seriously. Analyzing would be the breaking parts of it down like if this method of brushing it off worked on person "a", but it didn't work on person "b", what was the difference? And synthesizing the "brushing it off" concept or lesson could be coming up with a new opportunity or situation to use the new logic like at home with siblings. The evaluation part would be thinking back through the whole process including maybe the part of thinking, "Hey, that DSP-person is pretty smart!"
And, then the whole cycle would repeat or start fresh with choosing a new "Bloom." Again, by this I mean focusing on the next thought or set of thoughts; basically, figuring out how to do things so that you are feeling happy, secure, and valuable. Choosing learning goals both short and long-term is a continuous process. Concepts of choice, decision-making, and self-regulation (being in self-control before, during, or after change(s)) come in at each taxonomy level and we would highlight being aware of thoughts, feelings, and behavior throughout.
That's it Sister ... I'd like to make the next whole year around the thick of this theme. I believe the knowledge, skill, and ability of putting the program "The Five Essential Domains in Bloom" will improve the quality of life of everyone at the center, and it seems in perspective of the last 7 years ... the next step and one worthy of time.
Please let me know what you think. But, I can wait as most likely you will til after the weekend. Learning and development could be done softly without a big stick *big smile* I mean to do this new position right.
Us
Ok, it’s us again … back to the not as formal part. The above took a while to get there. I am a little concerned in that I think I really need to be working more with outlines than free-libbing, but it seems I get to around where I’m headed by figuring out stuff the hard way. Whoops, let’s gather ourselves together now for a little break … for the record … we still need to clean up our desk space again … it clutters after half a day … but, we’ve started the dishwasher, have taken our medicine, and we’ve been holding the kitty … so am feeling pretty good. One of the things we need to focus on this year is completing projects, and I think the above has gotten to a point, we need to move on. BUT, as an aside, I might want to take this opportunity to test out using the new goals systems that we’ve been talking about above. I think a big key to this new program might be in “outlines.” First thing first … brb.
Ahh better.
Big breath. Ok, now how do we proceed? It’s about 15 minutes to noon and I want to get a nice-size portion of something concrete done. So far … it’s been more like finishing up with what had been happening. How do I go about the process of collecting myself (in outline form) to assure we are going in a straight-forward movement?
What was it that our friend had asked us to do from yesterday’s notes? We were to ask a couple of questions and then do something with an outline. As a little side note here, we are reminding ourselves that we wanted to be more linear by using the Outlook program. We’re still not sure of what’s happening with moving the 2007 program over to our work computer … I’m not sure if we haven’t closed the doors that says we need to progress forward. I seem to have painted ourselves into a corner. But, I’m not ready to tackle that thought process for the time being, we’ll pass on that. So next …
AHA … figured out too that we’d had a project waiting in the wings for quite some time now with coming up with a job description for our new position. That might need to be done pretty soon and it might help us practice using the outlines. Let’s review yesterday’s post for a second though first. We’d like to get past the thought that we’re spinning our wheels and just letting time go by unaccounted for. Our friend stated correctly that we need to be thinking from the position of being in new responsibility. Hmm. That’s a thought too … we haven’t yet reviewed carefully the work that we’d done during our meeting with our friend. That might help us comprehend better the outline. For just a second here I would like to say there seems to be some problem we are having in organizing or nesting our thoughts, so we can understand the priorities. Like one of the small subset projects of this last 24 hours is in thinking through the dimensions of the “domains in bloom.”
There was something we were getting to with the functions that reflected that we couldn’t draw a straight perpendicular line … so, the concept of moving around in the domains … might have to be rethought and that first impulse was to punch down the boxes like keystrokes against the walkway of the black title bar. I’m pretty sure if you are reading this that that doesn’t seem to make sense, but I wanted to get it down now as a marker, because it’s one of those important thoughts in the development of our diagram as a model of efficiency and effectiveness of our program being developed.
It seems to me that one of our friends’ questions was to look for the problems – what is wrong with the center, and then to ask what do I want to change … and from there we develop lists, which optimistically become fetter for our outlines. Outlines should equate with Outlook. As a side note … that system is more reason than not for moving the new 2007 over to the office. Because we wanted as a key component to merge our mail and scheduling and to do lists with home and work.
There’s a side issue I’m only going to reflect here for a second, but that is again the situation with the paper tiger. Checking into that development at this time, we’re bending toward getting the program from money our friend is keeping and getting that matched by sisters. I’m still a little worried over the vulnerability of the laptop at work. And, I’m still pressed that I can’t logistically swap files from the new Q’s files and our laptop to the big computer if we make the big switch, but if I don’t make the big switch, I’m afraid that my home and work computer will not be compatible. And, in that regard … we’ve already stepped off the ledge … in that this program is not going to change at this point. We have 2007 at home and there is no going back. There are a few side issues in that we can’t do all the new things, and we don’t have full usage of everything the program offers. There is another side concern as to whether or not we can send documents to Dr. M. But, now we’re again feeling pressure from all of that, so we’re going to step back.
As a note on outlines … we are remembered to something we’d done long ago. Do you recall when I’d started to write that story long time ago - the one of the family in the mid-60’s. I think we’d gotten into it about 7-8 chapters. I remember we left that work back at AOL, so it’s been about a year to a year and a half ago, minimum.
The reason I bring that up now is that it reminds me that at that time, we’d done significant work in writing through outline formats. It had given me a complete feeling, but as many of our projects that are wily … it became to detailed for me to think through properly. But, as I am thinking now … I remember also how the outline had helped me that I’d worked on from on the initial job description that we’d written when we felt our last position was getting too cumbersome. At the time, it really helped me to straighten out my mind as to what all we were to be doing.
Our friend suggested that he give us some of his old management books, and I think he had in mind there helping me to develop an outline of all the areas that we were to be concerned in with our new position. Perhaps, I could find something comparable and more uptodate on the Internet, but I don’t want to spend a lot of time on that right now. Maybe then we are at a point, where we need to return to the idea of making lists. I had a thought a few moments ago, that If I were to make new outlines, that I might want to do it to Excel. And, as a side note issue, I also am reminding myself now that one thing I might consider with the doability of the computers is to again look at that program that allowed you to operate your computer from a home base. As a fault there though, I don’t think it went two ways, I think we could only use our work computer at home, so that wouldn’t help us using the 2007 program at work. *Sigh* we’re still working on it.
As a side note, I have to say something of benefit in that when I fear all my systems are not working, I am reminded that this system of writing posts in our blog has proven to work over the test of time in that it gives all of us an avenue to add input into the whole of our forward momentum. That’s pretty good, right? Hehehe
Oh man … it’s so much later … I’m not sure though let’s think how much? 5:49 pm.
I’ve been busy organizing things. I think I better get this one posted, because it’s been settin here for some time and I have another project that is going to take some room … things are in a very funny way pointing to I have a task to do in outlining our correspondence from our friend yesterday and maybe more … I’ll have to give it a look. This post has been gone over thoroughly and we were able to pull from it several specific tasks that we’ve labeled mostly ToDo, Problem, or Idea. We organized it in one note and really utilized the Outlook program and its task lists … Really liked it. I’m not sure if now my OneNote program is going through, but we’ll check that out as well. But, for now … let’s post and get some outlining done. That seems to work best in clearing our mind and specifying what has to happen next. We’re going to need some kind of scheduled responsibilities to make this new program work. It’s all about goals.
