Quick notes on working with Group 1
Good Morning. 15 minutes is all we have now … sorry we woke up late. We fell asleep last night on the couch tucked under the big white blanket, and then Rich put us to sleep proper after he got home about 12:30 am. I think he said he was tired AND he didn’t win us a house. Pswhoo … I think he’s playing in the wrong card game! HMPF!We’ve already taken our shower, packed up and taken our medicine. Oh, and we fed the cats and made coffee. The kitties REALLY don’t like it when we sleep in like this, but we were having a lot of nightmare like dreams. It involved our family of past, but I don’t want to remember any more than that. It’s flittering in my mind, but I’m not in the space I want to lasso it down to Earth. Yuck!
Yesterday turned out pretty good. We got through the day without any major trouble. I did find myself after working with the group for four hours pretty tired. Immediately after I’d been with them, I did the DSP Chronology notes, which included writing out the codes and the information on the back about how each of the individuals’ days went. There were 12 people in the group yesterday. I was really happy though that it had gone smoothly.
There were varying things to report on, but for the most part we stuck to reporting the 3 main events of the day. We’d done the Circles group where the remembered and matched six stuffed animal characters to as many colored circles. Then we had prepared a chart with numbers on the left 1-50 with singles, and then to the right a chart with 1-50 by 5’s. We did various tests with them on being able to follow directions and match the numbers to that which were being given verbally. For example, we had them find 10 random numbers, then numbers that included 5’s and then 3’s, and then we had them find numbers for all the twenties, etc. That turned out pretty good, but there were a distinct portion that did either really well, or not so good.
The last major part was working on identifying signs. We had printed 6 sets of 36 signs that we’d used earlier with a goal for someone and we had them working in partner teams. The first part didn’t turn out so well in that we had them trying to put the cards in order by alphabetizing them. They had the cards with pictures and words on them and then a list where the words were already put in order. I made a mistake there in that I shouldn’t have used all the cards. It was a difficult task for them. Then we changed-up and had them working on just finding the cards. We had them spread the cards all out on the table for each set of partners, and then we showed them a picture of the cards and made a game out of who could find the card in their own stack the fastest. That went very speedily … I couldn’t believe how quick they were getting it.
So then I made it a little more difficult. The second and last round I had them finding the cards, but I only said the name of the card. I didn’t show them a picture. This slowed them down somewhat, but not significantly. I was really proud of them and they had a great time doing it. I left the materials for the DSP when she returns from Michigan.
That’s about all I have time for this morning, but should let you know we are hoping for a real good day. I have to watch group 1 first thing, but after that I don’t think we have anything slowing us down from doing the Qnotes. We really have to nail them, hmm?
