Just a Moment on the High School Vist from MN

Good morning. This is me. I’ve only got a few moments today, so I can’t go very far into it. Yesterday went pretty well all told. We did the things we were supposed to. We didn’t get much farther past that, but we were pretty good.
We didn’t have to stay with Group 1 for long, because Imelda was on time for work.

WooHOO! Today of course, I will have the group all day. So, that was what I did last night – I prepared for the day as a trainer. Maybe I’ll have time for that in a few minutes.

I had some time between the out-of-state groups coming in, so I made the best use of it. I started right away in creating the next set of calendars-forms for the next year’s set of DSP Goal Data Training sheets. Maybe I’ll get time today to put a copy of what it looks like here. It’s not a real EXCITING form, but I like it a lot. It’s mellow and easy to look at. The best part is that I found a picture of the center that I’d gotten on-line from MapQuest. It’s pretty cool. I made very good progress on the project and I’d already started printing out individual’s forms before the group got there.

About 20 minutes to the hour, I thought I better make sure the DVD was all set up.

I had a few moment troubles with it, but Maria came up to help. And, then within a couple minutes of that the group came in. They were 14 individuals from Bemidji, MN plus the connecting person from here in Chicago. The group was very quiet to start with. I’d asked a couple of times if there were any questions and I figured they were looking pretty intimidated.

We talked just for a few moments, and then we watched the 15 minute video which was a real good idea, and then we took them on the tour, and then the last room was the chapel, so we helped them break up into groups so they could spend time in the rooms. That seemed to work out pretty good. Then the group went out into the rooms. I checked on them a few times, but pretty much let them be. I had gone back to working on the Goal Data Sheets in-between things.

I decided to gather them at about 11:20 am in the leadership room, because I wanted to let them talk about their experience and I wanted the individuals set up their lunches without the pressure of extra people. Sr. Theresa was gone and the other nun was there so I figured that would take some pressure off that situation. It turned out to be a very good deal. They all had things to say about their experience. I went to each of them and asked about their experience and who they’d worked with. Then I gave them a little background information on each of them. It seemed to go very well. They were much less intimidated and they’d been excited by their experience. We kept them about 15 minutes, and then they spent the last 25 minutes with the group at lunch. I made sure that was going ok, and then I left them.

I did go back to make sure that when it was time for them to go that the individuals would give them a round of applause. I felt very good about the experience in general. Later after Sr. Theresa got back we told her about what had happened and the success of the program. She seemed pleased and asked if we would like to do the next group coming in next Tuesday. So, we accepted the invitation. The next group is going to be college students. I think it’s pretty cool all told.

Maybe later we’ll go into the setting up of the Group for today, by then we’ll have an idea of how things turned out. But, for now it’s about time to get dressed. So, with all that and more … we’ll be seeing you later.
