A little bit on the Family Tree

Good morning … this is me. We’re up at a better time today. We got up around 4:30 am and it’s about 4:45 am now. We took a few moments to do regular stuff which now seems to be including preparing our iPod for the day. We took off some series that weren’t occurring daily and we added a few more. Well, probably about 18 more downloads, but hey … I say we got time … why not!

Everything else seems to be in order. Rich is tucked in to bed naturally, there better be fish around if HE’s going to be up this early. We went through a few moments of tension again last night … it seems to be that same pattern. We were in a very good mood, and he came home tired. We wanted to talk and he just wanted to rest. So, you can see how that might not work out. And, then we were mean in that we told him that if he didn’t want to talk to us we’d just go to bed, so we did. It was after 8:30 pm, so it wasn’t like a big news flash.

I knew that things were happening with his family, and our idea is that it’s better to talk things out, but whatever was going on it was too overwhelming for him.

About an hour or more after that we woke up again. I’m not sure how it was happening, but I think he got up for something and he got too close because before you know it we were sneaking kisses all over the place. Whatever anger we’d picked up from his mood beforehand had dissipated and we were back to our regular just wanting to be close. He wasn’t sure of us being up because he said he was going to look at a couple of fishy shows. He’d looked at a West Wing. We told him that it was fine and after watching the first one with him, we got our fudgsicle and you know that’s always a good deal.

After the show finished he said something about going to bed and he was going to tuck us in, but we asked if we could sleep with him and he said sure and well, that’s just the nicest part of our day. We got a little silly, but only for a moment, because he was really tired. So tired he didn’t even read his book. That’s pretty unusual. I think though that he’s still at a sleep loss because of having played cards this week. Last night he told us though to wake him up so he could get to work early. He figured that parking was going to be a problem. He’s coming to St. Rose this morning because of the meetings. Today is the Staff/safety meeting and we are having the Administration meeting.

I don’t think we did too much after we got home before Rich. We had been out to see Dr. Marvin and we were on the tired side. Rich had made some special bean soup, so we had that and it was good. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have found not only Rich, but a Rich that can cook! He’s so amazing. Then we got ourselves comfy on the couch and started looking over something that Dr. Marvin and I had talked about that related to the book. Easiest way I can explain is to say meta-tags. It’s not like that exactly, because we’re not sure how it’s going to work, but basically we knew somehow or another we were going to review the work and look through it more carefully. We had brought over to the couch with us some index cards, but we only got about 5-6 into it before we ran out of that kind of steam.

The thing that had happened that was cool was that Thom had called during Dr. Marvin’s session and we really couldn’t talk there, so he called back after I got home. The biggest news is that he has been assigned his first duty station. He’s going to be going to New Orleans!!!!!!!!! Wait was that enough exclamation marks?

WooHOO!!! I can’t believe it. Can I tell you how much relieve there is to know that he’s not going this round to Afghanistan or Iraq?! For the record he did say he’d probably go there before the 5 years was up, because it was a good way to be moving up. Yeeks! Let’s not think about that hmm - just thinking that if everything goes as planned – Thom is going to be in New Orleans for the next year and a half. I think he’s going to be a part of the 4th Marine Division. I’m not sure yet. Thom said something about a 4th and we’re now guessing that to be the case. I think it has to do with Marine Reserve Units. He’s going to be doing something from an Administrative level with computers and security and that’s about all we’ve got figured out.

AHA! That’s been confirmed. Apparently New Orleans is the Marine Forces Headquarters for Reserves and they ARE the 4th Marine Division. I found the link for the

http://www.marforres.usmc.mil/

I think this address must stand for Marine forces reserves dot military
They keep calling the base MFR which makes sense then. Ahh, there’s another handy link. There is a 4th marine Division Family Readiness program

Ok, this next part is a little muddled. It’s now 8 am and we’re still at home, but have at least made SOME progress. We just got out of the shower, took our medicine and packed the bag. Rich is downstairs trying to shovel out my car. There was a lot of snow last night and it’s still coming down. We have contacted Sr. and told her we are coming in late. Friday is the day to do it if at all, because I don’t have to watch the Group up front. We just got a little too involved here on the computer and went from one thing to another until I realized it was time to go and I hadn’t woke Rich, taken my shower or anything. I told her I’d be there by 9 am, but 9:30 am would be sufficient too. I just have to be there before the 10 am meeting.

I can do that.

I had done a lot of looking around trying to find things to do with Thom’s new PDS and then I found myself back at Marineparents. Sure enough you can get a T-shirt, cup, hat or about anything else with the 4th Marine Division on it. When we save up our money, I might get a shirt that says the 4th Division has your back. More on that later … Just a favorite Marines saying.

I also spent some time over on Facebook. I had asked Joe to become connected to me, which I’d done quite a while ago, but before he was really very involved in it. So that led back to checking out a few other things. I put out a request for information on the Ludford site, and I found this site had only about 23 people, but there is another Facebook site that has about 49 people. So, we requested to join.

It’s a closed one, so I don’t know what’s going on there.

We looked up Rasmussen’s, Hoenke’s, Hammers, and Ludfords. I think that’s all my grandparents’ names. I don’t think we got too far, but found the one with the most is the Rasmussen’s and then the Hammer’s, and then the Ludford’s and then the Hoenke’s. One day I’ll talk to my sister about the family lineage. She’s supposed to have all the family pictures and my father’s genealogy connections. I don’t think I’m really up to that yet. Just thought it was curious because I’d looked up the first name, and then I was over at Joe’s place and found out he and Maury were part of the Garvey’s on-line. I joined that too to keep my foot in the water. Even though we were just married into the family – fact is that we were and that I’m as much now a Garvey as anyone. I have in the last week though changed my Facebook name to include the Ludford name – that’s my maiden name.

Hmm, better get going now, but we left this note in the boys’ Facebook stuff.

Hi - this one is for you guys Maury, Thom and Joe. Just wanted to let you guys know some of your other possible family connections. I'd seen that you were interested in being part of the Garvey Facebook crowd. If your interested your other Grandparents names are St. Cyr (Grandma Garvey - Irish mix), Ludford (my father's father - English), Hammer (my father's mother - Norwegian) Rasmussen (my mother's father - French/Danish), and Hoenke (my mother's mother - German). I joined a group for the Ludfords already and am working on the second Ludford group. The majority are based in England. Something pretty cool about that already!

Umm, seriously now? Shouldn't someone go to work?
