Short Note from Tuesday

Good Morning … it’s just mi … don’t be afraid. Ok, we have that straight.

It’s about 4:30 am now. I couldn’t tell you what happened the last half hour, but I know we had set our alarm for 4 am and there is now a cup of hot coffee in front of me. That probably means there’s a kitty in the wings waiting for me to move it.

Ahh there is our Missy. She’s using the powder room.

The only thing we have to add from the post the night before is that we have to go to work in slightly more than 2 hours, we talked to our youngest son, and we’ve probably got work to be doing. As to our son … we talked through an IM. He said that he has a scrape under his chin, a black eye and a sprained ankle. I was glad that he stayed home a day and kept it up and on ice. That made me feel better.

BUTTTT, in keepy up with not talking about the kids … we’ll just say that as a mother … pretty proud of him … he’s very strong. Matter of fact even in preschool, he said that he wanted to be have inserted the name strong before his name. ACKKK ok, not talking, not talking … Hmpf!

Best that we get on with the student part. Let’s read the assignment … I don’t know whether or not we’re going to need reading the supplement first. Ahh, this sums it up …

u06d1 Violence and Aggressive Behavior

For this activity, you will discuss an article from the supplemental text and the text readings from this unit.

Instructions

Read the Anderson, Carnagey, and Eubanks 2003 article, "Exposure to Violent Media: The Effects of Songs with Violent Lyrics on Aggressive Thoughts and Feelings," that is reprinted in your supplemental text as Reading 13.

Consider the following:

o Does viewing violent behavior increase the likelihood of aggressive behavior?
o Describe the social learning theory of aggression and analyze recent research on the link between viewing violent models on television and other forms of media (such as video games or music) and aggressive behavior.

Oh man I was afraid of that … they want us to discuss stuff like video games. I will have to negotiate this position. I know the author’s of our text, are again all forms of that stuff … most likely it will be the same in the supplementary reading, but I’m going to have to definitely read it. Let’s peek too at the second half the assignments

Hmm, short and to the point

u06d2 Gender Differences

What does the research suggest about gender differences in aggression? How could you apply this information in your current or future professional setting to help reduce aggression?

Ok, deep breath … why don’t we move on with it then … we’ll fill up the coffee and head over to the couch. Enya is on the background and all systems are go … don’t forget the highlighting pen!
